Challenges of Establishing and Running Cancer Screening in a Tertiary Health Institution in a Low Resource Setting in South East Nigeria

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women, and the seventh overall, with an estimated 528,000 new cases and estimated 266,000 deaths in 2012. A large majority (around 85%) of the global burden occurs in the less developed regions, where it accounts for almost 12% of all female cancers. Cancer of the cervix is a preventable disease. Unfortunately, it is still the commonest gynecological cancer and second commonest cancer of women, worldwide.
