Unusual Traumatic Wound Caused by a Metal Halter Chain in a Horse

This report presents the treatment of an old wound in a horse. The horse was found by its owner after going missing with a partially healed wound in the cervical area. The wound was suppurated and there was an embedded chain. Upon clinical examination, the animal showed a painful linear wound on its dorsal neck and had a metal halter chain in the wound. A direct radiograph showed the position of the chain in soft tissue. Surgery was performed to remove the chain following infection control and medical treatment. In the postoperative period, there was no functional impairment in cervical area. The case was remarkable in terms of the presence of a chain as a foreign body within a healed wound.
